Another Karl Drop, Already a Yawn?
Another Karl drop
The Dematerialised launched some more Karl figurines. It was kind of interesting the first time; the second time, I don't really get it. The novelty is gone. I guess make hay while the sun shines?
This speaks to an inherent issue with NFTs; they are infinite. So how interesting is a new one? The big question is, how does this differ from, say, a Chanel bag? The quilted 2.55 are also kind of infinite, in that Chanel keeps making them. Both products are limited by marketing choices, not physical limitations. NFTs are more infinite, we can all agree on that, but in this spectrum, what happens in the future.
When physical resources play no role in luxury, is scarcity entirely imaginary? Rumor has it the Dolce and Gabbana NFT collection took 16,000 hours to make. That’s scarcity. But I assume with time, efficiencies will drive those numbers way down, at least in terms of general production. Creativity, of course can’t be made more efficient. No answers, only questions.
Business of Fashion’s new “tv” show will cover digital fashion
Episode 4: Dematerialisation. Fashion’s New Frontier Is Virtual Worlds. Imran mints an NFT, dons an outfit that doesn’t exist, and steps into the virtual realm with pioneering entrepreneurs behind RTFKT, Lukso, and The Dematerialised to discover why they believe the Metaverse is the next fashion gold mine. Launch Date: Thursday 11th November
I missed this, somewhat, but Vogue Singapore did NFTs of its Septmerb cover. Including this QR code image, which is pretty striking. What’s more interesting is how you bid on them, they put some pretty clear directions on the site.

Binance is a crypto platform, similar to coinbase, where you can exchange your dollars/pounds/whatever fiat currency for a different cryptocurrency. Binance is blocked in the US and much of the EU for regulatory issues but apparently very much NOT blocked in Singapore. East v West in the game of technology adoption continues.
Adidas shot a metaverse campaign for their new collection, with the Fabricant.
While I saw this on the Fabricant’s Twitter (marketed as a digital fashion house, they both do their own designs/drops/marketplace, and help other brands bring things to life), there was no mention anywhere of it on Adidas site/PR, which is a bit odd. Also, the masks annoy me. Surely there’s no Covid in the metaverse?
PVH, Tommy Hilfiger Parent Company, Opens Up 3d Digital Fashion Company
If you’ve been reading this newsletter since the beginning, aka a few weeks ago, you know how much I love this aspect of digital fashion. How much less waste can we have if we automate different parts of the operations of an apparel business. While real clothes are hopefully not going away (for now?), technology-aided sustainability can help rectify the toll on the planet they take.
Stitch 3D is used by sister brands Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger, and now they’re looking for new clients. It is, according to the website, A HUB FOR YOUR 3D COLLECTION THAT WORKS THE WAY YOU DO-Enable your brand to scale 3D apparel practices visually and collaboratively with Stitch 3D.
I didn’t think I’d be mentioning this brand so much, who knew. They are partnering with Elite World Group Virtual (EWG Virtual) to “invest in virtual talent and experiences.” Also from the PR “With over 60%1 of people saying they feel more engaged with a brand who uses VR and AR and customers spending more money in virtual stores, EWG Virtual will help the world’s leading brands develop strategies to reach new consumers where they are spending their time.”
AND “EWG Virtual is excited to announce model and fashion influencer Jasmine Sanders as the first avatar talent the company is unveiling, along with cutting-edge virtual content. Sanders, who is represented by Elite World Group agencies, appears in an immersive fashion film, wearing digitized clothing and walking virtual runways in spectacular 3D environment - showcasing the diverse capabilities of EWG Virtual.
